I was exposed to Yoga approximately 40 years ago through Richard Hittleman’s book 28-Day Yoga Exercise which I practiced intermittently for many years. Throughout the years, I also bought videos and that is how I practiced for a very long time.  Then I went to my first yoga class in a gym about 20 years and stopped going after that first class. It felt too much like exercise, and I was expecting... Read more

1. Please describe, or tell a story, about your first yoga class or yoga experience.

My first exposure to yoga was via Richard Hittleman’s book, Introduction to Yoga, in a Bantam paperback edition dating from the seventies. I still own it, musty-smelling and browned at the edges. This was a perfect style for my beginning in that I grew up in the military and our teacher was fairly strict, so it was strangely familiar. My body was a bit crooked from mild scoliosis, so she had me the majority of the class on the... Read more

1. Please describe, or tell a story, about your first yoga class or yoga experience.

It was an absolute disaster. I hated the teacher, I hated the yoga positions.

Yoga was just something on my list of many things that I wanted to try. I was 23 and on a mission to discover life and everything about it. To “get to know myself” was high up there and I thought maybe yoga would be a good way to get to that goal, because that’s what I’d heard and read about it.

So I signed up... Read more
